Man of the year Michel Cleis mixes the third volume of Strictly Rhythms, the series that digs deeper than any other. And the Swiss maestro digs deeper than most, making the task of building a mix around his benchmark La Mezcla look like child’s play.

Going right back to the original master of percussive house tracks, Kenny Dope, and weaving a winding road via Armand Van Helden and Roger Sanchez, Cleis’ Strictly Rhythms really is all about the rhythms.

Kenny’s Untouchables tracks ‘What Cha Say (Come On)’ and ‘Lil Louie’s Anthem’ add a little disco flavour, enhanced by Roger S’ ‘Get Hi’ and UPI’s ‘That String Track’ and then it’s a tour of the lesser travelled deep house tracks with the likes of Total Capacity’s ‘Celebrate’, Wamdue Project’s ‘Remember The Memory’, Hardrive’s ‘ChaCha Muchacha’ and ‘Break Night’ by The Mole People aka Armand Van Helden. A beautiful and beguiling mix reaches a peak with ‘La Mezcla’ (Dub) (exclusive to this compilation) and Michel’s ‘Floreo’ Remix of River Ocean’s ‘Love & Happiness’.

Girls in Hollywood could learn a lot from Blake Lively. She went to the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ premiere last night in New York, and just like every other day of her life, she wore stuff either cut real high or real low or both. The only other girl on earth who wears clothes that fit like like this day in and day out is Wonder Woman.

This is certainly a function of my youth, but I can’t help but feel that newspaper bags are more appealing for their folksiness than their functionality. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it really feels like the days of the newspaper are over, like it might be the next big thing for hipsters to read newspapers, because it’s so much more authentic than reading the news online. I’m rambling—that last sentence is an abomination—but the main point is that it seems silly to buy a $2400 bag whose defining characteristic revolves around a dying medium. Of course, being silly and expensive has never stopped me from featuring something on here before.
